Winter Reverie: The Kiss

Laughter, half-joking dares. Goaded by friends.  Crowded room.   Drinks shared.

Direct stares, challenging the other to act first.  Boy versus Girl.  Look away.

Last call.  Paid tabs.  Crisp Valley air.  Snowflakes against the night sky; as flirtatious as their smiles.

Playful touches and laughter as they trailed behind.  Alone at last.

Grabbed hand.  Dark doorway.  Slow motion.  Time stands still.

That kiss.

Nine years.

Memories revered by one; dismissed by the other.

Boy – 1; Girl – 0.
